United Way of Union County (UWUC) plans to distribute $253,000 to local partner agencies and programs in 2022.

UWUC’s Community Investment Committee met in the fall of last year to review best practices for each applying agency. Members of the committee include representatives from the health/human service, nonprofit and business community.

Sherri Coleman serves as the chair of the Community Investment Committee along with serving as secretary of the UWUC Advisory Council. Coleman is a Nationwide employee who lives locally and has volunteered with UWUC for the past 15 years.

“It’s great to get the opportunity every year to meet with our partner agencies and learn more about what they do in the community.” Coleman explained, “We had to make some hard choices regarding at what level to fund those agencies.”

Corinne Bix, UWUC Director, said between COVID and changes in philanthropic giving, we have had to re-examine our role in the community and how we can best serve through advocacy and fundraising.

“This year with a reduced campaign we put an even greater emphasis on funding those agencies that provide basic needs. In addition we focused on agencies that are 100% local to Union County and are either completely volunteer run or rely heavily on volunteer support for daily operations,” said Bix.

The 2022 UWUC theme is “$52 in ‘22” encouraging every Union County resident to pledge $1 a week to support the nonprofit’s 29 local partner agencies. Some of those funded in 2022 include: Helpline 2-1-1, Bridges Community Action, Daily Needs Assistance of Plain City, The Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Memorial Meals, Milford Center Food Pantry, Union County Personal Needs Pantry, Richwood Civic Center including the North Union Personal Needs Pantry and the REAP food pantry, Windsor Community and Seniors, Community and Seasoned Citizens, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Union County and the Union County Family YMCA.
