United Way of Union County’s 2nd annual food drive at UCO Industries collects 2400 pounds of non- perishables for local food pantries
September 22, 2022
United Way of Union County kicked off this year’s annual campaign with its second annual Food Drive at UCO Industries in Marysville last Friday. Groups, organizations and workplaces were encouraged to collect non-perishable food items to help stock the shelves of local food pantries in Richwood, Milford Center and Plain City.

“Last year we collected 1500 pounds of food, and this year we increased that by almost 40% with a grand total of 2400 pounds collected,” Corinne Bix, UW of Union County Director, said,“ To make things fun, we weighed all the donations and had a friendly competition. Our friends at UCO Industries and Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities (DD) really got into the spirit and were bringing in food throughout the day to try and beat one another.”

Marysville High School and Marysville Early College High School won the competition with a combined total of 756 pounds of food collected. UCO and Union County Board of DD decided to combine their totals for a second-place finish with 638 pounds collected. The City of Marysville rounded out the podium with 215 pounds collected. Other contributors included: United Way of Central Ohio, Rotary Club of Marysville, 2nd Chances Thrift Shop, Edward Jones Investments — Cory Hixson, Moriroku, Maryhaven, Bridges Community Action, Marysville Public Library and Liberty National Bank. The food drive aligns with United Way of Union County’s commitment to meeting basic needs in Union County.

“When basic needs are met, people succeed,” Melissa Marino, Vice-Chair of the UW of Union County Advisory Council explained, “UW of Union County is making a concerted effort to prioritize basic needs in our community by awarding Union County dollars to Union County agencies who will use those local dollars for local solutions to hunger and homelessness.”

This year’s campaign theme is “Look what $52 can Do!” as an extension of last year’s “$52 in ’22” campaign.

“If every Union County resident pledged $52 to the annual campaign, all of our agencies would be completely funded,” Bix said.
