Union County to receive more than $13,000 from Emergency Food and Shelter National Board
Local public or private voluntary agencies urged to apply by August 12, 2019
July 29, 2019

Union County will receive $5833 from Phase 35 and $7465 from Phase 36 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program.

Union County was chosen by a National Board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from The Salvation Army; American Red Cross; United Jewish Communities; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; and the United Way Worldwide. The National Board was charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country.

A local board made up of representatives from The Salvation Army, Union County Department of Job and Family Services, Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, Community Action Organization, Union County Commissioners; Turning Point; Heart of Ohio Homeless Shelter; Legal Aid Society; The Hope Center; and the United Way of Union County will determine how the funds awarded to Union County are to be distributed among emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area. The group is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds available under this phase of the program.

Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: 1) be private voluntary non-profits or units of government, 2) have an accounting system that employs generally accepted accounting principles, 3) practice nondiscrimination, 4) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 5) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board. Qualifying agencies are urged to apply.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds should request an application from the United Way by calling 937/644-8381 or by email at corinne.bix@unitedwayofunioncounty.org. Applications must be returned to the United Way of Union County, 648 Clymer Rd, Suite 120, Marysville, OH 43040 on or before August 12, 2019 at noon. The Local Board will review the applications by August 16, 2019.
