Wings is a non-profit peer support center focused on assisting people who are
dealing with mental health and/or addiction issues. The non-profit is one of a limited number of CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) providers in the county. . . and the only
county CARF organization providing vocational training. The new program is uniquely specific to consumers with disabilities who
are attempting to enter the workforce. Shari Marsh, Operations Director, presented Tim Schilling, Wings Executive Director, with a
$5000 check to help fund this new opportunity which combines self-paced learning, one-on-one instruction and group led learning. Schilling said research
suggests 40-60% of consumers enrolled in this type of program have a competitive edge compared to 20% enrolled in a more traditional model.
This start-up program will provide 60 hours of computer training with a focus on basic windows and Microsoft office skills that are routinely used in business settings.
