Third Annual LIVE UNITED Radiothon on QT 1270
November 19, 2015

Continuing its commitment to live, local programming, QT-1270 AM in Marysville will be helping United Way of Union County toward its $1,020,000 campaign goal by airing a nine-hour LIVE UNITED Radiothon on Tuesday, December 1, also named “GIVING TUESDAY”. The marathon, highlighting stories of people who benefit from gifts made to the local non-profit, will air from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a fundraising goal of $10,000. This will be the third straight year QT-1270 has donated airtime to the cause. Last year’s event raised over $7,100 for the United Way campaign.

“We are extremely pleased to once again partner on this Radiothon for the benefit of the United Way of Union County,” comments Pete Emmons, Senior Account Executive and On-Air Personality of QT1270. “United Way touches the lives of thousands of local citizens in need every month through its partner agencies, and the need for assistance in our county is significant. We strongly encourage individuals, businesses and organizations to get involved in this year’s event on December 1 to maximize the overall support to United Way. Doing a little goes a long way!”

In fact, one gift to United Way supports six area pantries, four senior centers, two shelters, an after-school youth center, a homeless prevention program, rent and utility assistance, disaster relief, prescription medication, hospice care, cancer support, youth activities, and more.

Representatives and recipients of these programs will be featured throughout the day. And giving opportunities will abound. Volunteers will be staffing a phone bank throughout the day to accept pledges called in by listeners. Easy online giving is available at www.unitedwayofunioncounty.org. Local businesses are encouraged to tune their radios to QT-1270 throughout the day, make a corporate gift, and hang posters to support the cause. Donors and businesses making pledges may choose to receive on-air recognition during the Radiothon.

December 1 also marks the global day of giving known as #GivingTuesday, held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday. While these retail days help to kick-off the holiday shopping season, #GivingTuesday is held to inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

“Every time we give back to our community, we receive so much more in return,” adds Tony Eufinger, Honorary Chairperson for the 2015 Radiothon, as well as a Board of Trustee and Campaign Committee Member for the United Way of Union County. “The Radiothon is a great opportunity for us to help our friends and neighbors who need our help but may not be able to ask you and me for that help. The United Way of Union County is made up of people from many professional backgrounds who work together to be good stewards of our donations. When people support the United Way of Union County, they can rest assured that their donations are helping improve their neighbors' lives and the quality of life for everyone in our community.”

In addition to airing on 1270-AM, the event will can be streamed online at www.qt1270.com, on www.unitedwayofunioncounty.org, and on smartphones and tablets via the “Tune-In” app.

Eighty-two cents of every dollar given to United Way goes directly to programming, beating the Better Business Bureau Standard of Charitable Accountability of 65 cents on the dollar. Money raised by United Way of Union County stays in Union County, unless directed elsewhere by the donor.

United Way works to bring neighbors and resources together to improve lives in Union County. United Way of Union County has raised more than $18 million for local needs since it was established in 1958. More than just a fundraiser, United Way collaborates with local businesses, government, and non-profit organizations to solve pressing social service issues large and small.
