171 athletes honored their heroes by finishing United Way’s inaugural “Honor our Heroes” Quarter Marathon or 5K Saturday at Glacier Ridge Metro Park. The races, presented by Jerome Village, netted nearly $7,000 for the $1 million United Way campaign.
Benjamin Keller, of Marysville, took first place in the Quarter Marathon with a time of 45:27. Laura Mastella, of Plain City, was the top female finisher, clearing the course in 47:44. The race was the 14th in the 15-race Union County Grand Prix Series for 2013. Local finishers in the Quarter Marathon included:

Ian Johnson, of Columbus, took top individual honors in the 5K, completing the 3.1 miles in 24:19. Addyson Miller-Brown of Marysville was the fastest female, turning in a time of 28:12. Local finishers in the 5K included:
United Way works to bring neighbors and resources together to improve lives in Union County. United Way of Union County has raised more than $17 million for local needs since it was established in 1958. More than just a fundraiser, United Way collaborates with local businesses, government, and non-profit organizations to solve pressing social service issues large and small.
