United Way Board Member Kara Brown (top right), has made volunteering at Taste of Marysville a family tradition. Tammy Miller (top left), Max Miller-Brown (lower left) and Addy Miller-Brown (lower right).
“My kids have asked me for the last couple of months when the Taste of Marysville happens because they want to work it again,” said Kara Brown, a United Way Board Member.

They don’t have to wait much longer. The annual showcase of Union County’s restaurants and caterers is set for Saturday April 13 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Marysville High School Fieldhouse. Over 20 vendors will be on hand to samples of their best menu offerings.

Brown’s 12 and nine-year old children have served on the volunteer crew at the event the last couple of years.

“They are tired afterwards, but they always ask when they get to do it again,” Brown said. “We have helped to bus tables and tear down after the event. It is an opportunity for the whole family to participate.”

United Way coordinates the volunteers needed to help staff the event in exchange for a portion of the proceeds. Last year netted $1,000. Two years ago, the award-winning restaurants donated their proceeds back to United Way and the organization’s take was over $2,000.

“There are perks to volunteering,” said Dave Bezusko, United Way’s Campaign & PR Director. “Free meal tickets. A chance to mix and mingle with everyone in town. It’s always a fun event.”

“The part that I like is that it brings a whole range of people in from the community,” said Luke Braun, a United Way Board Member. “You see everyone!”

“The idea of ‘Living United’ is something I believe in deeply,” he said. “Our slogan isn’t just a slogan for me. So these types of events are perfect for us to be able to wear our LIVE UNITED t-shirts and promote that message while supporting a great community event.”

Taste Tickets are eight for $10 and can be purchased at the door. Attendees then redeem tickets at the vendors of their choice for a sample. The theme of this year’s event is “Taste, Chatter & Stroll,” and will feature the musical entertainment of Mike Albert’s Ultimate Tribute Show, known worldwide for his portrayal of Elvis Presley.
