| Don't tell the kids. But it's almost time to
go back to school. The United Way of Union County is helping area schools get ready by conducting
its 7th Annual Agency Directors'
School Supply Drive, presented by AmeriHost Inn. On Saturday August 7 and Saturday August 14, United Way Agency Directors and AmeriHost Inn staff will be collecting school supplies from 9:00 a.m. to Noon outside five area stores: Wal-Mart, Kroger, K-Mart, and Big Lots in Marysville and Yoder's Hardware in Plain City. Shoppers will be presented with a list of needed supplies when entering the store. They'll have the opportunity to purchase any of the items on the list while inside and can drop them in the provided drop-box on their way out. Shoppers who donate school supplies will then be given a $20 discount coupon to be used on a future stay at the Marysville AmeriHost Inn. Supplies can also be dropped off until August 14 at AmeriHost Inn (located at 16420 Allenby Drive in Marysville) or the United Way office (at 232 N. Main Street) in Marysville. Supplies will be sorted and distributed to all Union County elementary schools before the start of the year to be used at the discretion of school staff for children who don't have essential items needed to complete school work. |

"This is a great way to provide the supplies so that all the teacher has to do is
grab the pencil, grab the notebook, and the child doesn't have to be put on the spot,
doesn't have to feel humiliated," said Stephanie Hall,
manager of the Marysville AmeriHost Inn.
"And they can have a brand new pencil, a brand new pad of paper, or a brand new book bag for school.
There are so many supplies the kids can use and it's an economical way for each family to contribute
to a family that doesn't have as much." The list of supplies being collected includes: #2 pencils, pens, markers, crayons, book bags, hi-liters, erasers, glue sticks, tissues, rulers, zip-lock bags, index cards, pocket folders, fiskar scissors, spiral notebooks (wide-ruled), and notebook paper (wide-ruled). Hall asked that while families are shopping for their own school supplies that they think of those in need and pick up an extra set of supplies for children who will need them. Schools that will benefit from the United Way's School Supply Drive presented by AmeriHost Inn include: Creekview Intermediate, East Elementary, Edgewood Elementary, Mill Valley Elementary, Navin Elementary, and Raymond Elementary in the Marysville Exempted Village School District; Fairbanks Elementary in the Fairbanks Local School District; the new North Union Elementary in the North Union Local School District; and Plain City Elementary in the Jonathan Alder Local School District. Those in need of school supplies are asked to contact their school's guidance counselor at the beginning of the school year. | |||
