| One of the reasons why the United Way is such a successful charity organization is
because you, the donor, know that you can trust that your contribution will be spent wisely to help people in your
community. The United Way of Union County has received certification from the Better Business Bureau,
affirming that fact. The Bureau recently completed a review of our organization and determined that we met all
of the new charitable accountability standards in the BBB’s self-regulatory process. The standards were rigorous, designed to assist donors in making sound giving decisions and to foster public confidence in charitable organizations. There are more than 20 standards that must all be met to achieve the acceptable level of excellence. Organizations that meet them prove that they meet standards in how they govern their organization, in the ways they spend their money, in the truthfulness of their representations, and in their willingness to disclose basic information to the public. After meeting these new national Better Business Bureau Standards for Charitable Accountability, the United Way of Union County will appear with said status in the BBB’s new Local Wise Giving Guide to be published in September for the fall and holiday seasons. In addition to the Better Business Bureau’s evaluation, the United Way can provide upon request, a complete financial report prepared by an independent auditor. The United Way of Union County is responsible with donor dollars, using money to meet the needs of residents here at home.
