Who has cabin fever? The United Way of Union County has a cure for the wintertime blues! United Way will be celebrating another successful year with an old fashioned Block Party on Thursday March 10. The dinner bell rings at 6:30 p.m. at the Union County Services Center (located at 940 London Avenue in Marysville). United Way will be honoring the women and men who make United Way possible: top donors, dedicated volunteers, and the hard-working staffs of the Member Agencies. An announcement releasing results of the 2004 fundraising campaign will also be made. But this won’t be your typical Annual Meeting. “It’s going to be an indoor block party to chase away those winter blues,” said Michele Mercer, United Way’s Volunteer Campaign Chair. “Lots of games, great entertainment, a band that you just cannot afford to miss and a wonderful speaker. It should be a really entertaining and motivating event. It would be disappointing if you missed it because it will be fun.” Dr. Richard Boettcher, professor at The Ohio State University and former Dean of the College of Social Work will be the guest speaker. Musical entertainment will be provided by both local guitarist Steph France and the Richwood Civic Center Kitchen Band. Dinner is being catered by Pottsie’s BBQ. Raffle prizes are accumulating as well, including autographed items from John Travolta, the Wheel of Fortune, Terry Bradshaw, Ohio’s professional sports teams, passes to the Funny Bone, the Newport Aquarium, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Mad River Mountain, a YMCA Membership, overnight stays at Holiday Inn Express and the Hampton Inn and plenty more. Admission is $10 per person. Reservations must be made in advance by calling the United Way office at 644-8381 before Friday March 4. Guests are asked to dress casually as they would for a block party in their neighborhood. |
