United Way and Marysville Public Library

For Immediate Release
November 20, 2003

The Youth Arts & Recreation Committee recently approved a $450 grant to the Friends of the Marysville Public Library that will pay the fee for up to 15 under-privileged youth to participate in a Friday-evening art program. United Way's special partnership with the Friends of the Marysville Public Library will enable more area children to participate in the popular art classes being offered by renowned sculptor Rodolfo Perez. United Way dollars will be used to pay for scholarships for children without financial means to improve and foster their love of art. The grant comes at a time when additional funding to the library is needed.

“The library certainly appreciates the support,” said
Denise Birkhoff, Vice President of the Friends of the Marysville Public Library. “They want to reach as many people as they can, but with the state budget cuts, lots of things are going to see cuts in the next few months. This is something we don't have to cut back on because we're going to be able to bring these art classes to children because of United Way.”

The United Way’s
Youth Arts & Recreation Committee reviews grant applications year-round from youth recreation providers in the hope that its financial support will enable more youth to participate in the wide variety of opportunities available in Union County.
