Together, we rose to meet the economic challenges of 2009 head-on. And despite the doom and gloom, we raised $825,000 for our friends and neighbors in need. That total is within 2% of what we raised in our record-setting year of 2008. And in January 2010, United Way volunteers were able to allocate more than $634,000 to social service programs in Union County, within $3,500 of a year ago. “So thank you, volunteers,” said Luke Braun, 2009 Volunteer Campaign Chair. “Thank you, donors. Thank you workplaces and sponsors. It’s because of all of you that we can confidently say that we did all that we could to help our neighbors in their time of need. “At the end of the day, what are all of our efforts really about? Helping others. Doing good deeds. Being good neighbors. I believe we are all just trying to give back to the community that's been so good to all of us. It just so happens that giving back feels great! Congratulations, everyone!” More than 300 area businesses made their impact by giving through United Way.
