322 runners braved sub-zero wind chills and high winds to compete in Saturday’s running of the United Way Honor Our Heroes Quarter Marathon and 5K at Glacier Ridge Metro Park. The races, presented by Jerome Village, raised over $17,000 for United Way’s $1 million fall campaign.

Marty Shroyer, of Marysville, took top honors in the Quarter Marathon with a time of 44:24. Michelle Danne, of Dublin, was the top female finisher, completing the course in 45:59. The race was the 13th in the 14-race Union County Grand Prix Series for 2014. Local finishers in the Quarter Marathon included:

The event, which sold out prior to race day, drew competitors from throughout central Ohio and as far as Tennessee and Nebraska.

United Way works to bring neighbors and resources together to improve lives in Union County. United Way of Union County has raised more than $18 million for local needs since it was established in 1958. More than just a fundraiser, United Way collaborates with local businesses, government, and non-profit organizations to solve pressing social service issues large and small.
