United Way of Union County Partners with Care Train of Union County

May 4, 2018

Care Train of Union County, a holiday tradition in Union County since 1987, presented a $5,000 check to The United Way of Union County (UWUC) for The Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL).

“The generosity of Care Train enables us to send nearly 2,400 books to enrolled preschoolers countywide,” Sheila Sullivan-Passwaters, UWUC Office Assistant, said, “Their gift is greatly appreciated and I love that we can also participate in their holiday event by providing new books to add to gift packages.”

Jim Cesa, Care Train Board Secretary, said this is the third year Care Train has donated to DPIL. DPIL is managed and funded local through UWUC and provides free monthly books to preschool children (birth until their fifth birthday) in Union County.

UWUC is proud to partner with a fellow non-profit dedicated to assisting eligible children, families and seniors living in Union County by providing toys and food during the holidays through the kindness of others. In 2017, Care Train funded $175,900 in food vouchers, provided 639 children with Christmas gifts and served 272 families, 379 seniors and 90 disabled adults.

Care Train works with the Department of Job and Family Services of Union County to identify those children, families and seniors in need. They also verify the state economic guidelines that qualify households for the program while maintaining their identity and income confidentially.
